Quick Navigation

What you will learn

The importance of a confident and positive mindset for birth

This will not only influence how you felt about giving birth, but it also has an enormous impact of how your body responds and is able to work with birth, and we delve deeper into understanding this. We also show you how you can use the inner resources you already have to effectively prepare your mindset to achieve the birth experience you are after.

Labour and Birth

It's very hard to have a confident mindset about birth if you don’t understand what it's all about. This is where we explore the mind-body-birth connection. You and your partner will learn everything you need to understand how your body prepares for, and works during birth and importantly, how you and your partner can support this.

We explore in depth

  • How your mindset influences birth physically through your nervous system and your hormonal system, influencing how your uterus will open (or not).  This is what we call the Mind-Body Birth connection.
  • How you can draw upon your own inner resources to work with and amplify your Mind-Body-Birth Connection and how your partner can support this too.
  • The stages of labour (now known as the continuum of labour) and how to recognise each phase and all the tools and techniques you both need to respond and work with them. And yes, we cover when to go into hospital if that is where you are birthing.

How to work with birth however it unfolds

  • All birth - spontaneous labour, induction of labour and other interventions, pain relief options and caesarean birth.
  • We explore the different decision-making points that couples may encounter throughout the birth journey.
  • How to navigate your options and choices in birth to make informed decisions to create the best birth for you and your baby.

Preparing for your postpartum - The 4th Trimester

Our program does not cover changing nappies, bathing babies, settling and sleep. However, we do provide you with resources and direct you to the professionals in this field.

I would definitely recommend the Calmbirth course. I found the tools and knowledge learnt invaluable for the journey of labour and birth. I believe they can also be implemented in other moments of stress or intensity in life as I have done so.

Conscious Parenting

  • We do explore the prenatal bonding, skin to skin contact and postnatal bonding, connection, and attachment to your baby. Setting realistic expectations and ‘planting the seed’ beyond birth for the transition to parenting to understand what children need to develop and thrive.
  • Learning the importance of self-care during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period.
  • We explore all the things you need to consider and plan for so that you can recover, settle in and both feel well supported, nourished, and nurtured during this time.

Whilst the space can be confusing and on paper we can both sound the same, don’t be mistaken as Calmbirth is the Blueprint for all other antenatal education. You MUST be a midwife or birth professional to teach our course. We are the trusted leaders in childbirth education as we have the longevity, credibility, and experience behind us.

We are Australia’s most recommended course by midwives and obstetricians. We are in major maternity hospitals both private and public. Calmbirth has a therapeutic component that is embedded in and throughout the program that no other childbirth education program can replicate.

Calmbirth has been researched extensively by independent researchers that have shown to:

  • Enrich couples’ birth experiences as positive, irrespective of how they birth.
  • Provide couples with more personal psychosocial coping strategies, and a positive reframing of their childbirth experiences, reducing the chances of birth trauma, anxiety, and depression disorders.
  • Improve self-efficacy, decision-making, and health literacy, lowering the rates of unnecessary medical interventions.

We always recommend that you bring your birth support person that will be with you on the day you give birth, for some it will be their partner, for others it will be their mother, or friend.
