About Calmbirth

We’re honoured that you’re considering Calmbirth as part of your birth preparation. Birth is more than physical -it’s an emotional journey that transforms you. We believe that how you give birth and how you feel during this experience matters deeply, as it stays with you forever shaping your parenting. It becomes the story you’ll tell your children, grandchildren, and their children. And it is these stories that will change the culture of birth - one birth at a time.

Why Calmbirth

Calmbirth isn’t just another antenatal class. Calmbirth is Australia’s blueprint for all other childbirth education programs.

Our Story

No other program helps you prepare for birth like Calmbirth does – There’s no birth like a Calmbirth and that’s why we are so highly recommended by Midwives and Obstetricians everywhere.

“I first came across Calmbirth over 20 years ago, it was a very positive development at the time because it represented an antidote to the rapidly increasing social and individual anxiety around birth. Too often pregnancy, birth and beyond is undermined by concerns about the myriad risks that “can” happen. Calmbirth directs women and their partners back to the reality that the process of labour and birth has a rich and valuable meaning for everyone involved: the mother, the partner, the wider family, the maternity carers, and society at large.

“In my career over the past four decades this has played out over and over again; Calmbirth has given women and their partners the space to appreciate this so that even if “risks” do eventuate they are able to weave that into the fabric of meaning around the birth.

Our Vision

Our vision is to make Calmbirth accessible to as many couples and caregivers as possible. We’re proud to be part of antenatal education offerings in major public and private maternity hospitals across Australia and New Zealand.

We also offer ACM accredited workshops and training for birth professionals—midwives, student midwives, doulas, and allied health staff—because when caregivers understand the mind-body connection, it changes the way they support women and their families in birth.

Our Mission

Our mission is deeply personal: to help every woman and every family feel empowered, informed, supported, and connected during one of life’s most vulnerable and profound experiences.

"Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers...strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength." - Barbara Katz Rothman

We look forward to supporting you to feel prepared and empowered to approach birth with trust, confidence, and connection.
