Changing birth culture for future generations one birth at a time

At a time when Australia’s maternity system is marked by rising intervention rates and increasing reports of birth trauma, the role of the midwife and caregiver has never been more critical nor more in need of expansion. Calmbirth education represents more than an antenatal course. It is a professional extension of our practice, one that integrates psycho-spiritual insight with physiological understanding. Our Calmbirth Educator Training offers a meaningful, evidence based and informed pathway for midwives and birth professionals to extend their scope of practice beyond clinical tasks,  into the emotional, psychological and relational dimensions of birth.

As a Calmbirth Educator, you will:

  • Be able to guide couples with compassion, clarity, and unbiased information.
  • Equip them with tools and strategies that will help them emotionally and physically in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
  • Help transform fear into confidence.
  • Support informed decision making with caregivers.
  • Encourage connection with each other and their baby.
  • Plant the seed for conscious parenting and postpartum preparation.
  • Work flexibly while building your own business.

Our training program is comprehensive. We have a well-structured syllabus that is professional, and evidence based.  Our team is very supportive and here to see you succeed. Most of all, we find that our program not only positively impacts the couples we teach but is life changing for us as Educators.

“I did it to help women, but it is changing MY life.”

“The Educator training is great because you are with like-minded midwives.”

“It has been insightful and will have a great impact on my midwifery practice.”

“Amazing! My heart and mind are full, and I can't wait to join the team!”

“I loved this training - even more than I thought I would! It inspired me to be better, more knowledgeable and gave me a great starting point to get off and running with my teaching. I am so excited to be a part of this and to see where it can take me! Thank you so much.”

Our Training program consists of:

  • A 9-month training journey that is taught from a structured syllabus which is regularly being updated in accordance with the latest research and informed practices around birth.
  • Module 1 is an online learning package that provides the theory and foundational knowledge you will need to facilitate the Calmbirth Program.
  • Module 2 is a series of live workshops run over zoom for 1 day per week for 5 weeks. During these workshops we will work through the Calmbirth Syllabus and strategies to facilitate the program to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Module 3 is where you consolidate your learning and put into practice what you have learnt, developing lesson plans, teaching the program to volunteer couples, evaluating, and reflecting on these experiences.
  • 104 CPD hours (ACM recognised).
  • Ongoing mentorship, community, and professional support.

Calmbirth® Educators business model

Australian law identifies trademarked businesses with prescribed programs as franchises. The protection built around the Calmbirth® childbirth education program means the registered Calmbirth® educator’s business is part of a franchise.

Why a franchise?

Calmbirth® is part of a franchise because the program is:

  • Trademarked
  • A prescribed program, whereby a logo and branding guidelines are supplied to each educator to be used for the facilitation and marketing of their Calmbirth® courses.

Calmbirth® is considered to be a franchise which is regulated by the Trade Practices Franchise Code Of Conduct. Unlike McDonalds, or most other businesses of this nature, Calmbirth educators do not pay a large amount of money for their franchise.

Costs to Franchisees

Calmbirth® Educators only pay for their training. In 2026 this cost will be $4,000 There is a small annual registration fee of $850.

To keep registration current, a yearly franchise agreement is signed by those wishing to renew their registration. A copy of the previous year’s franchise agreements is included in the Module 1 material.

Protection for Educators and for Calmbirth

The franchise agreement essentially ensures protection for you once you become a registered Calmbirth® educator.

It also protects the Calmbirth® program and its business in general by providing a framework for delivery of service, consistency in the program, protection of intellectual property and ensuring quality control, which other similar and cheaper childbirth education programs do not.

All registered Calmbirth® educators are franchisees. If they are registered midwives, most work either full time or part time as midwives and run Calmbirth® courses either in the evenings or over weekends.

Some educators, over a period of time have built their Calmbirth® business to a point where they now run Calmbirth® courses as their sole business. Some of the childbirth educators run Calmbirth courses as well as facilitating parenting courses etc. Doulas also facilitate courses as well as assist mothers in their role as doulas.
